In most cases, lock opening can be done without drilling and damaging the lock. This is always the first option we look at. Non-destructive entry methods allow us to gain access while keeping your existing lock intact. This means if you’ve got a spare key inside there’s no need to have the lock replaced.
There are a number of techniques we use depending on the type of lock. Different brands of lock need a different opening method. Some locks respond well to hand picking, others may need alternative methods such as a dedicated lock specific tool.
We are often seeing first-hand the aftermath of a very
popular locksmith scam involving gaining entry. Some companies are advertising
very low rates initially and then destroying locks unnecessarily. Often, they
are also causing irreparable damage to the door. Once the job is complete, they
then present a bill for hundreds of pounds more than originally quoted. This was even

Most people think a lock would ever need opening because of lost keys. This is not always the case, sometimes we have to open locks that are jammed but the customer is already inside the property.
Faulty locks that refuse to open because of broken keys or internal parts that have failed is a very common jo we attend. This can happen to any type of door but is most common on wooden, upvc and composite doors.
The process usually involves identifying the exact cause and then carefully opening the door without leaving any visible damage. Once access has been gained, we can advise on repair or replacement depending on exactly what’s needed.
In some cases, the problem isn’t the lock itself but how the door is aligned with the frame. Changes in temperature, general wear or movement in the property can cause doors to drop or twist slightly, which puts pressure on the locking points. This can make the lock feel stiff or stop it from opening altogether. These are the kinds of issues that can often be sorted without the need for a full lock replacement.

A snapped key is another common issue, particularly in colder weather or with older worn locks. When part of the key breaks off inside the lock this will usually prevent you from being able to open it.
In many cases, the broken piece can be removed using specialist tools without damaging the lock itself. Once it’s out, we can check whether the lock is still functioning correctly or if it’s likely to cause further issues down the line. If needed, we can replace the lock there and then and provide new keys, so you’re not left dealing with the same problem again in the near future.
It’s a situation that can seem worse than it is, but with the right approach, tools and knowledge it’s usually resolved quite quickly. If the lock was already worn before the key snapped, we’ll point that out so you can decide whether it’s worth replacing to avoid repeat issues.
Upvc and composite doors are very common across Leeds, and they come with their own set of problems. Multi point locking systems can fail in a few different ways, often leaving the door stuck shut even when the key is still able to turn.
This is where experience really matters. Opening a failed upvc or composite door mechanism without causing damage to the door or frame takes care, experience and the right tools. We’ve worked on all of the different lock brands, so we’re familiar with how these systems behave when they go wrong.
We also see a lot of cases where the issue builds up over time rather than failing suddenly. Handles becoming stiff, locks needing extra force, or doors not quite closing properly are all signs that something isn’t quite right. Dealing with it early will almost certainly prevent a full lockout situation.

Some people aren’t sure whether their situation needs a locksmith or if it’s something that will sort itself out. As a general rule, if a lock is becoming harder to use, sticking, or not working consistently, it’s worth getting it looked at sooner rather than later.
Locks never fix themselves, and what starts as a minor inconvenience can turn into a full lockout at the worst possible time. Even something as simple as a key not turning smoothly is an early warning sign.
We’re always happy to take a look and give straightforward advice.
